Matthew studied Journalism at College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, Newfoundland and has worked with Transcontinental Publishing as well as student-youth magazine The Troubador.

He has written ten novels for Engen Books, Black Womb, Transformations in Pain, Smoke and Mirrors, Roulette, Ghosts of the Past, Ignorance is Bliss, Becoming, Inner ChildGang War and Infinity, the last of which was written with co-author Ellen Curtis.

He has also contributed short story work to the anthology series More Sci-Fi from the Rock and the What the Wild Things Read charity book published by Ink’d Well Comics.

Since 2007 he has traveled all over Canada promoting his work as well as teaching seminars on writing and publishing. He also helps young Newfoundland authors become published through Engen Books.
